The renovation of the kitchen is the reason Agatha exists today. In 2023, we showcased the transformation of the island online, from its previous life as a 20ft set of drawers for priest vestments, into our 10ft masterpiece! The tiktok went viral and here we are today.

The space was originally the dining room, the most loved room in the house but the least used.

We knew we needed to do something about the original kitchen. It felt like a kitchen in a ship. The ceilings were incredibly low and there wasn't much space for utensils and larger items like blenders and hotpots. It was also quite a dark space. For such a grand house, the kitchen needed an update.

The decision was made and the renovations started. First we decided on the layout. It was important for us to ensure we kept the spaciousness of the room, so we opted to keep the storage on two walls, leaving space for a dinning table at the end. DeVOL was our choice of kitchen supplier and we worked with them to design the cabinets. They even designed a kitchen island for us, until we saw the priests drawers at an antique fair and decided we would create the island ourself!

We worked with a local joiners to create the custom island, fit with a dishwasher, sink, double bins and deep drawers.

After ripping up the carpets we found some wonderful floorboards that were just about usable. We worked carefully to pull them up so we could fit the pluming. We removed 3 windows and replaced them with 2 double door and bifold doors, to open up into the garden.

We chose an Everhot oven in black, to match the beams and deVOL cabinets. Controversially, we opted for no extraction fan and instead chose a marble shelf for decoration, placed over our fabulous wallpaper from House of Hackney.

One of our favourite features of the space is the mezzanine. Once we had nearly completed the space, we felt that we hadn't made it into enough of a feature. Wallpaper and wall lights to the rescue.

And the finished product? Our dream kitchen. An inviting space where we all hover around the Everhot, to make our cups of tea and talk about our days. We hope our renovations inspire you! Check out the finished product:
