Design Series - Master Bathroom

The original bathroom was very sweet but in desperate need of an uplift. It also needed a little grandeur, it’s the master ensuite, after all. The carpet was particularly tired and desperately needed replacing with tiles. Abandoned and covered in cobwebs, it was time to rip it all out and start again. Our master ensuite may be small, but we wanted it to feel every bit as luxurious as the rest of the house. The key was clever storage and thoughtful design.

We’ve used Thomas Crapper before in our cloakroom, so we knew their fixtures would bring the perfect mix of quality and timeless style. This time, we ordered the cistern primed and painted it in a deep burgundy to match the panelled wardrobes in the dressing room. Unlacquered brass fittings add warmth and character, gradually patinating with age.

For the walls, we chose a House of Hackney wallpaper which we used in the dressing room and bedroom. Pink paneling covers half the walls and matches the pink tile floors from Original Style.

We sourced antique lace from an antiques market, and hung it on a brass rail across the window. To save on space, we opted for a curtain instead of a door. The material is from Villa Nova.

We worked with a joiner to turn an old bookcase into the ornate base for our sink and built hidden storage behind both a mirror and portrait. A cast iron bath, painted in the same burgundy as the cistern, ties it all together. The perfect Agatha look!
